Field of Dreams Sold

What a surprise to wake up on Sunday, October 30th, 2011 to the headline, "New Dreams for Field" by Ken Belson. Belson is a reporter for the New York Times. Recently he had been in the area doing an article about how long the field had been up for sale.

Serendipitously, close to sending the article to print he would gain a scoop on a plan to purchase the field by Go the Distance Baseball LLC.

That investment company, owned in part by Mike and Denise Stillman, will add a commercial element to the site, by adding a kid’s sports center—something similar to one run by Cal Ripken,Jr.

They plan to name it All-Star Ballpark Heaven, which they hope to open by 2014.

They will be leaving the movie site’s iconic field, bleachers, and farmhouse exterior the same, so that fans will still be able to experience the Field of Dreams as it has been since 1988 when Universal Studios build the field.

Residents of Dyersville, Ghost Players, and fans of the field eagerly look forward to what new dreams may arise from the purchase of the field and surrounding farmlands.

We want to thank the Amskamp Family; the Lansing Family; Brian Frankish and Universal Studios; Keith Rahe and the other Ghost Players; and now the people from Go the Distance for making this dream, keeping the dream alive, and starting a new dream. What and awesome thing to have done for the fans and families.
